The Beast of Turin

RE: The Beast of Turin

I just posted that as a question , it should have been an article.

28.5 liter 4-cylinder.

7.125 liters per cylinder!

Cripes.

Just think about that, The beast has, one cylinder, bigger than a corvette engine. Talk about raw power.

Makes me want to get a ticket for this year. Will rival XH558 for noise this Summer.

Probably with levels of specific power and BSFC the 'vette could only dream of winky smile

Notice transfer of all that power by relatively modest roller-chain.

Steve, if you go - post some pictures/video, please!

RE: The Beast of Turin

I found somewhere on the net a claim of 300 HP for the Beast.

10.5 HP/liter

A pittance by today's standards.

RE: The Beast of Turin

That is fantastic. It would be neat to rebuild something like that.

LaCajun.
Pam, this is a fantastic rebuild, here is footage of the restoration process. One of the interesting things here, is footage of the bottom end of the engine during the rebuild. I do not see any drillings in the crank or connecting rods, suggesting that this was a splash lubricated engine.

Berkshire, that must have been a wonderful labor of love. Good catch. It was interesting seeing the use of a hammer and love the chains, as an old bicyclist. The hammer still has that use all over the world, I bet. I've always thought renovating an old vehicle would be interesting and fun.
