Recently came across this ~370-page PhD thesis covering the history of the quartz crystal oscillator. Given its presence in nearly all things electronic these days, I thought some here might like to take a gander:

Pfft, I could write a huge thesis on several of the topics in my head... but no idea what I would do with the Arts degree [neutral] But it does make good reading from time to time...
