Hi,
I submitted WPS for SS 316l with process GTAW & SMAW but client sent me back with comments, asking to find suitable filler metal for high temperature application. I went through Section IIc 5.9 and found 347 is applicable in more than 400 degree. But i don't know whether i can use 347 to weld 316l or similar base metal.Do we can use 308 ?

Use SFA 5.4 E316L for SMAW and SFA 5.9 Er316L for GTAW. Both match the 316L base metal.

thanks , but client asking for better heat resistant filler wire than 316 L.

RE: 316L base metal required suitable high temperature filler metal for GTAW & SMAW

No, he doesn't want that. The weld will have better creep resistance by virtue of the coarser grain size.
If you further strengthen the weld then you are likely over time to get cracking along the edges of the weld. As the base metal deforms the weld will not.
You really want them to match as close as possible in properties.
In Europe they use 316Ti, a stabilized version, but it is stronger as well.
