Coding method not available in this country

(OP)
I disribute Excel engineering applications from my website (for free) and have an email from a user that he gets the error message "coding method not available in this country" when he tries to run the applications.

I have been unable to find anything in the MS KB and wonder if others have seen this and know how to deal with it?

RE: Coding method not available in this country

You could try asking CrabbyLady at the Microsoft Office site.
The US Govt has some restrictions on exporting certain software to some countries, but I can't imagine that it extends to Excel which, I would have thought, would be as ubiquitous as windows by now.

BTW I snitched a couple of your spreadsheets myself. Thanks!

RE: Coding method not available in this country

can it be that it is not something in Excel itself but that that coding has something to do with a localized version of the operating system used?

Perhaps he could try the spreadsheet on another computer with another version of Windows or Excel or both to get more info where the problem is located.

I have personally experienced some problems that were quite alike running various combinations of Microsoft software under various localized versions in various non-english languages.
