Adams Go Kart Simulation HELP!

Adams Go Kart Simulation HELP!

Adams Go Kart Simulation HELP!

(OP)
Hi,

I've only just started using ADAMS view and car so please bear with me.

What I want to do is model a go kart in Adams view and then use the model to simulate different situations that are available in Adams car such as the ISO lane change. I then want to place a roll cage onto the kart and compare the two

However I'm not sure where to start, the kart itself is physical and i have faro data and a CATIA model.

What is the best way of going about this? Has anybody done anything like this before?

I know all of this sounds like a really novice type question but im struggling to find any type of tutorial or help example that is similar. My university tutors haven't been any help either!

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

RE: Adams Go Kart Simulation HELP!

I'm assuming you know why you are using A/VIEW, rather than something more suitable.

OK, you have several rather large problems

1) tire data - see ADAMS/Tire manual

2) need to model flexible properties of chassis see ADAMS/Flex manual

3) driving the kart along a fixed route see ADAMS/Driver manual

To put it another way, I have seen professional trained ADAMS guys struggle for a year with what you are proposing.

Cheers

Ok fair point, how about if i go for something quite simple to begin with? I only stated Adams View as its the program i know best how to use and the one i have the most access to.

Is it not possible to make it a very simple model using a spring and damper type arrangement? maybe using two different stiffnesses front  and rear. Is it not possible to assume some tyre figures??

I'm aiming for something quite simplistic. Or is that not really possible

Thanks for your fast reply :)

RE: Adams Go Kart Simulation HELP!

Ah, well now you mention it.

The dirty secret is that the bicycle model is rather a good tool for investigating vehicle dynamics.

In ADAMS you can represent the chassis stiffness as a pair of rigid subframes on compliant mounts. It isn't ideal but it does work.

Yes you can boringly model tires as very simple things.

If you are simplifying to that extent then I recommend the excellent CarSim rather than ADAMS.
