Can anyone please tell me:

1: what are the inputs required for carrying out analysis on clutch damper using Abaqus as solver

2: Brief explanation/procedure to determine the stiffness/damper properties of the clutch.

RE: clutch damper

1. Clutch dampers are single DOF systems. ODE too, so pretty trivial to model. Why use Abaqus? Cheaper, easier and faster to write your own code.

2. Find someone with a dynamic rig. Static stiffness is simple to measure, but damping and friction are harder to test with DIY equipment. And they are important.

RE: clutch damper

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply, but I am carrying out analysis on the damper itself,

I have the following data:

There is a power-end and generator shaft, they both are coupled using a friction damper.

The damper has bolt connection with the flywheel, and the damper is connected to the generator shaft.

The damper design is very similar to to the present/generic clutch damper.

Objective: To determine the stiffness/hysteresis of the clutch damper

Inputs Available:
ICE inertia moment
Generator rotor inertia moment
Generator rotor shaft stiffness
ICE torque vs crank angle.

Request for some heads-up in terms of the direction/approach to be followed to carry-out the analysis.

Thanks,

savpk
