Bend Problem - Inventor 2011 Pro.

Bend Problem - Inventor 2011 Pro.

(OP)
Hi All,

I'm having a problem trying to bend part of a universal beam, refer attached.

What we do is cut out a section of the beams web, we then heat the section to be bent and then bend it towards the cut web.  Once in place the we then weld the section together.

What I cannot seem to do is represent this using the Bend or Fold dialog boxes - it just won't work for me.

Can you please check this out and let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Best Rgds,
Dave R.

Something like this (see attached)?
Also, I noticed that your first sketch is not fully constrained and has wayyy too many dimensions.  Use Symmetry constraints rather than dimensions.  You might want to read this document http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/skillsusa%20university.pdf

Hi rollupswx,

Yes I understand that I went too mad with dimensioning, I was just developing the initial profile of the beam and forgot to cean it up.  That said, and looking at the link provided, I still cannot get the Fold to work.  It apears that the only way FOLD is to work is on a single flat profile that has been developed using a Sheet Metal (ipt)and not on a beam such as the one I'm using.

I think I'll have to do a bit of stitching to get this done.

Oops agian - that means I'm using a later version of Inventor.
I'll try to post up earlier version solution sometime today.

just "convert to standard part" and use the "bend part" feature.

Hi rollupswx & mcgyvr,

Got It!!

What was putting me off the scent was the help offered by Inventor.  It talks about Sheet Metal Faces, and of course that will only work with single thickness material.  It was only by accident that I saw Bend Part hiding in the Modify tab.  Works really good now - Thank You

Best Rgds,
Dave R.
