How can I assemble two parts, one is a tapered pin, the other is a tapered hole both with the same wall angle.

I tried mate and insert but neither of these make the surfaces contact each other

I assume your problem is that the parts are not "touching" each other? Like you have them mated, but their is a gap between the surfaces?

In reality the situation would be like putting a cone shaped part for example a drill with a morse taper on the end for a drill press.  In reality the tapered surfaces of the assembly are in full contact.

But when I try to use mate or insert in Inventor, the surfaces don't contact each other.  There is some gap.  Like if you were assembling the parts and stopped inserting before the surfaces touched.

Sorry, I'm late but, based on your posts, both pieces are angled the same, so there is a "constant" gap all around the part? So I can assume you have the axis's "in-line", right?

You used Insert (I'm iffy on Insert) and it didn't work right?

You used Mate, as in "surface" of tapered pin to "surface" of tapered hole, or other means?

Yes, the gap is constant, all of the surfaces are exactly concentric.

I tried mating the surfaces and mating the axes and I tried to insert them but could not get rid of the gap.

Try the using tangent.
