4-6 GHz Balun design?
4-6 GHz Balun design?
(OP)
I'm prototyping a small dipole antenna from 4-6GHz and am looking for a good reference design for something in that frequency range. There are a number of chip baluns available but have a higher insertion loss. I'm etching the antenna on standard FR-4 pcb.
I'm hoping there is a "balun calculator" someone has ran across, or maybe to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance,
Frank

4-8 ghz is a standard band.
That's a wide band for a standard dipole, I hope your arms are very thick and possibly tapered.
Why make a dipole?
I'd suggest a notch antenna or a discone or a bicone. No baluns needed and much easier to build. If you need it to be planar on a circuit card, you can do that with these antennas too.

Yes, etching.

Hence, look up 180 degree stripline hybrid designs or balun designs in the books on Amazon
here's a book on amazon. Do the "seach inside this book" and you'll find out if they have 180 coplanar hybrid designs.
