Any experience in bending back A325 "material" anchor bolts? I've got anchor bolts with a 30 degreee bend. The contractor wishes to cold bend them back . Any thoughts.

This will result in a serious loss of load-bearing capacity in these bolts. You didn't give enough data to be more precise, but it sure doesn't sound like a good idea.

Sorry for the lack of information in my previous "thread". I'll try to give a fuller story. We have 1.5 - inch diameter anchor bolts which have been bent from impact from a large piece of equipment. These bolts have sleeves and they have been bent approximately 30 degrees from vertical within the sleeve. The material of the bolt is a high strength material similar to A325. I believe that F1554 would be the true material designation (105 ksi tenisle strength). As I indicated before, the contractor is looking to cold bend the anchor bolt back to vertical. I was curious if anyone had any feedback to provide, or would be able to provide any reading material on the matter. Thanks

High strength steel of this sort probably has about 20% elongation at failure in a tensile test. The 30 degree bend has probably taken the outer fibers near that in the accidental bending. So, you have now a bar with potentially serious flaws. It has been cold-worked, so it has lower toughness and a higher transition temperature. If it is straightened the opposite side will have the same defects and major residual stresses will exist.
The best restoration of the , if they were bent straight, would be to heat treat them to eliminate the cold work and stress relieve.
 It is hard for me to imagine these bolts could measure up to original design intent unless they were highly over-designed.
 Why not get new bolts and keep the case out of court.
