RE: Scope of International Building Code (IBC)

Item #4:  The IBC refers to ASCE 7 as the governing code for areas it does not want to double up on within it's own text.

Item #1:  The IBC is applicable to whoever adopts it, worldwide.

RE: Scope of International Building Code (IBC)

msquared48 is right.  The IBC is a model code, meaning that it is created so that ANY jursidiction can adopt it as law.  It has no legal force by itself if no one adopts it.

ASCE 7 is a code document that deals with loads for buildings only.  The IBC references it to specify building loads rather than print it all out a second time as msquared48 stated.

Dear msquared48 and JAE,
Thanks for your quick response.

Please advise on the following;
IBC does not list design data e.g. wind speed, snow load, seismic factors for international countries. Then How can an international country adopt IBC ?

Thanks

RE: Scope of International Building Code (IBC)

They would have to set those factors specifically for themselves, and then use these same factors in conjunction with the provisions of the IBC code to analyze and design whatever...

Hope this helps.
