Hydrostatic Test in Atmospheric Tanks

Hydrostatic Test in Atmospheric Tanks

Hydrostatic Test in Atmospheric Tanks

(OP)
Hi Folks,

If I have to wave a Hydrostatic test in an Atmospheric Tank, 200 ft diameter and 60 ft height because of economical and time reasons:
How can I compensate this test with NDE?
Is Hydrostatic test defined as a leak test or for testing the mechanical integrity of the tank?.

How is the risk associated if I do not perform such test, advantages and disadvantages?

Best regards and really appreciate your quite important opinion.

RE: Hydrostatic Test in Atmospheric Tanks

No NDE test can be a substitute for a hydro leak test. This will evalute the tanks capacity to be leak free. No pneumatic test please, for that can be very dangerous.

Learn the rules,so you know how to break them properly.

RE: Hydrostatic Test in Atmospheric Tanks

What product will the Tank store?, your company may be taking a great risk in not proving the tank is sound. Typically the test is to fill the tank with water to ensure that there are no gross defects that could rupture the tank.

You could consider RT or UT of the welds but that would be very expensive.

Your QA people should be consulted.
