Value of CRE Designation?
Value of CRE Designation?
(OP)
ASQ offers a CRE (Certified Reliability Engineer) credential that I have heard mixed reviews about. On one hand, I was told it was worth exploring all the credentials within my given engineering field as a resume discriminator. On the other, I was told that any credential beyond the PE is not worth the effort.
Does anyone have any experience with this credential or have thoughts about its value? Any thoughts/help would be appreciated!
Here are some details about myself that may help direct the conversation:
1. I am a civilian Reliability Engineer for the DoD.
2. I have my PE certificate.
3. I have an MBA degree.

RE: Value of CRE Designation?
I've never heard of a CRE, so no comments on that, but if it's otherwise recognized, it would seem to be more appropos than the PE or the MBA, for that matter.

RE: Value of CRE Designation?
I know some reliability engineers who work primarily with engines, some with various machines while others work extensively with electronics. Their specific experience in those fields allows them to be the best engineer in those circumstances.
Those are just a few things to judge from...
