Well, here we go again. I work for a US company that designs and fabricates large equipment that quite often goes outside the US. Problem is we hardly ever get meaningful seismic criteria. Let me give you an example. Here's the data we got for a job in Russia.
"The region is designated a VI on a scale of XII in the Medvedev-Sponheuer-Karnik scale, MSK-64, for average soil conditions. The Seismic Hazard Rating S=1% in 50 years."
What the heck am I supposed to do with that!!?? Don't these people have building codes? Even if they do, I don't see me learning Russian in order to read it.
In general, what do you folks do about seismic loads beyond your hallow shores? In specific, does anybody have any suggestions on how to handle this Russian spec?
