Can I measure uniformity of metal corrosion with restricted access

(OP)
Hi all,
I am trying to replace an inspection rig that digitally captures the image of a metal surface for visual inspection of a very thin corrosion product. The product has been introduced uniformly to confirm the material has no contamination from previous production processes. Is there software (maybe automotive industry that measures the colour of paint?) that can be used/modified for this application? Currently I have fibre-optic lights and camera lens in a probe to capture the image, with a camera taking continous pictures (almost bordering on video) for subjective inspection. Could the RGB numbering system be used to acc/rej the component based upon the standard colour of the corrosion product? Any help is appreciated.
