Large Output Handling

Large Output Handling

Large Output Handling

(OP)
Hi pals, I need your advice.
I have to handle VERY big output files from NASTRAN (.op2).
Using I-DEAS is out of discussion since it does not work.
Anyone can suggest me some post-processing package able to handle such huge outputs?
I hope the question is not inappropriate for this forum.

Greetings.

RE: Large Output Handling

What data are you trying to post-process?  I can't remember specifically what is included in the op2 file. If you can instead direct it to the punch (.pch), a product called HyperMesh (from Altair Engineering www.altair.com) is able to post-process from this file.  My understanding is that the only limit on the post-processing size is that the punch file cannot exceed the machine RAM (granted, it is a significant limit, but it is machine-based rather than code-based).
I am a big HyperMesh fan.  I think they've got a very good pre- and post-processing package.
Hope this helps.
Brad

Hi Bradh, thanx for answering.
Substantially, the NASTRAN .op2 file contains the same data as the punch file, despite in binary rather than ASCII format. This helps reduce the file size.
The results nature is the same, i.e. FEM calculation results. The problem is that the model I am running is very large (> 7E+6 DOFs).
What is the maximum size of models you successfully imported to Hypermesh?
Thanx, bye.
