does anyone know why I can't restore XP. No matter how far or what date it says it can't restore at this point.

What is the exact error message you are getting?

Do you have admin rights?

Are you selecting actual restore points or just selecting a date? My apologies if this sounds like a dumb question to you?

Hi, the restore function is very poor, do not rely on it. A proper backup scheme is the only way to be safe.

Thanks guys, I've tried any date, restore points and others to no avail. I've seen a bit about the restore properties and also the sfc/scannow function. I'll try these when I get home.
cheers

Your XP is probably honked up and needs to be scrubbed/reinstalled. There may also be some issues with memory allocation for restore and the number of programs you have installed.

All Ok now. I used sfc\scannow and it restored some corrupted files. I haven't retried System Restore as I don't want to go back now I know it's OK. I've made a new restore point now.
thanks for the input.
