To obtain BHP, use delivered capacity in GPM ( RPM X Displacement per revolution X V.E.) with the following formula: BHP = GPM X Discharge PSI/1714 X Mechanical Efficiency When the suction pressure exceeds 5% of the discharge pressure, determine the BHP as above and subtract the suction pressure BHP: Suction BHP = (GPM) X (Suction Pressure) X (M.E. less 3 percentage points) / (1714) Example : 10.3 GPM actual delivered capacity , 300 psi Suction, 700 psi Discharge BHP = 10.3 X 700 / 1714 X .86 minus 10.3 X 300 X .83 / 1714 = 3.4 BHP
