Analysis of Assembly

Analysis of Assembly

Analysis of Assembly

(OP)
Hello Everyone,

I am new to Solidworks and am trying to do an analysis on an assembly I have created.  The problem is, when I open the assembly file, the COSMOS option goes away.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

RE: Analysis of Assembly

Have you checked to see if the "add-in" is selected?

I just checked the add-in menu and there is no COSMOS option.  But when I open a part, I am able to use COSMOS.  Would it matter that the computer only has COSMOS Express?

RE: Analysis of Assembly

With Cosmos Express you can not use an assembly.
Do you have Cosmos or Cosmos Express? It does make a difference.

I have cosmos express.  The thing is, I have done it before.  I somehow created the assembly into 1 part I just don't remember how I did it at the time.

RE: Analysis of Assembly

You must have saved the assy as a part then ran CE.

I tried saving it as a part and it says "COSMOSXpress does not support surface models, multi-bodies or parts with no solids".  I remember that it was some option to join all the pieces of the assembly together or something.

RE: Analysis of Assembly

There is a function called join.  Do a search in Solidworks help for "join".  This will effectively create a new part that is composed of the geometry that made up all of the other parts.

I would be weary of assuming that this one solid will behave similarly to that of an assembly when you do the analysis.  Remember, garbage in... garbage out!

By Assmelby it's basically a simple truss.  Thanks everyone for the help.
