17-4PH Stainless Steel
17-4PH Stainless Steel
(OP)
We currently use a part in a processor with a wet acidic environment. It is a coupler and is subject to wear and stress. It is made of 416 Stainless Steel and hardened to RC 26/32. We are experiencing a corrosion problem and are looking to switch to 17-4 PH Stainless Steel. What is the annealed hardness, and what process is used to heat treat it and how hard will it get?
Are there any good metals books that give information such as this?

MIL-H-6875H HEAT TREATMENT OF STEEL has information about heat treatment procedures -- including those to give various tensile strengths (not hardnesses) for both cast and wrought 17-4PH. It's a free download at http://assist2.daps.dla.mil/quicksearch/
