Hi all,

Any leads on where I can find some low temp data for youngs modulus of ASTM A276 316/316LSS round bar (cold drawn > 0.5" OD)?
Specifically looking for -90°C, but anything close or lower would be fine and we will just interpolate.
Data that I've found so far only goes down as low as +20°C.
Thanks.

How accurate of data are you looking for?
Have you compared various sources at 20C and looked at the variations?
If you need good data at -90C you will need to arrange to have testing done.
When you measure modulus there are two ways to do it.
Acoustically, the speed of sound in a metal is directly linked to the modulus.
This is fast and simple.
Or measure in tension. You make what looks like a tensile coupon and you load it to ~2/3 Yield, unload part of the way, and re-load.
When you run these cycles you should get a bunch of parallel lines.
This is very hard to do on SS because it yields at such low loads, way below the engineering yield.

Thanks Ed / Swinny.

Data didn't need to be super accurate, just looking to run some natural frequency estimations at -90°C.

I did search on here for the data that Swinny linked to, but had a brain fart and used "low temp" instead of cryogenic..... lol.

Cheers for your help as usual.
