I would like your help on the following; for a given application requiring a SMT X7R Chip cap, 2.2uf@ 50, would it be more reliable to use a 1206 size or an 1812. Would the dielectric thickness be greater in a 1812, hence a bit more robust?
Tks!
Phil

As much as it would be nice, you can't make a blanket statement on this.

The key is the specified voltage. If you want more robust, use a higher voltage rated cap.

Higher possibility of PCB flexing causing capacitor cracking might be the main issue against the larger size part. Other than that, the larger part is more expensive.
