I have a number of drawings in diferent directories that are all X-ref to a border. These drawings are from an outside company and so the the X-ref is for a drive I don't even have. The solution I've been told is to keep a copy of the X-ref file in each directory. This works but it means I have alot of copies of this file everywhere. I have made a directory for borders ex s:\Acad\borders
Is there a way I can make files check this directory for the border if they cant find it in its current directory or where it is X-ref too. I dont want to save the files again with a new X-ref because it will change the time and date it was saved. PS I'm using Acad lt 2000.

Thanks

in Acad

tools -> options -> files tab
highlight "support file search path" select [add]
then browse to the directory where you saved border x-ref.

you may have to re-start Acad, then when you open a drawing with that x-ref (not in current folder) it will look in one of your support paths.

hope this helps
