We have a situation where the contractor put a wood post taking 4 kips of load directly unto a 2x wood plate ? I am trying to figure out if this wood crush the wood plate? Is this compression perpendicular to grain ?

Yes, although "crushing" is relative.
It is.

So how do you verify if it works. Are there any factors that I need to use?

Well Fc perpendicular to grain is 565 psi. That gives me a required area of 7.07 square inches. The wood post is 4x4 (12.25 square inches). Am I missing any factors?

3.5x3.5 actually for today's lumber. 12.25 is correct
315 paid peso. Should be OK depending on species.
