My edition of CSA 086.1 (which is not current), for the treatment factor Kt in evaluating Nu lateral resistance for nails, does not define the treatment factor at this point in the Standard as being anything different than the Kt defined earlier in the Standard. But the Canadian Wood Design Manual defines Kt for nails in the examples (in the white pages at the front of the book) in terms of whether it is treated by fire retardant or not.
Questions:
- Does this mean that no reduction for incised wood due to preservative treatment is required for the design of nails?
- why does the standard not define Kt for nails in the clause that defines the lateral resistance, so that it is clear that incised wood does not require a reduction in nail lateral capacity (if that is the intent)? I will check if there is any change in the latest edition when I get into office later this morning.
