I was curious if anyone could share their process for developing wiring diagrams for protection & control wiring and interconnect wiring between equipment. On the past few projects I did involving control wiring in a Substation application there were 100's of control cables interfacing with multiple terminal points throughout the yard which made the development of wiring diagrams extremely cumbersome.

I know there are some commercial software programs out there (AutoCAD Electrical, Bentley Substation, Elecdes, etc...)that have wiring modules that help simplify wiring process based off of a schematic that designer develops.

I know others use spreadsheets to keep an order to wiring, which I've experimented with in the past but still haven't found the best setup. And I know some prefer the manual point-point method of tracing out each schematic and transferring to a wiring diagram.

Looking for a more efficient way to improve the process and would love to head how others approach this task.
