Wire Rope Ends,

I have an application that will use dia 10mm (or 3/8) wire rope.

My question is, I am looking at swaged sockets, in particular the screw terminal. Is the intended use of a screw terminal to adjust rope length?

Also is there any issue with the nuts on the thread unscrewing due rope tension and wire ropes inherent want to untwist?

Aerial devices using cable platform leveling systems use turnbuckles to adjust the tension of the cables. The cable travel short distances (2-4ft) and the connections are double nutted. They also have insulated rods inside the boom to break the ground for electricity. These rods are also assembled to these cables with screw connections.

What is your application? Is this a hoisting application or what?

Have been on holiday, back at desk now.

Anyways, yes it is a sort of hoist, using 10mm dia rope (total length ~5m). So a dynamic situation.

How are you using this in a hoisting application? As the main hoist cable or as part of a hoisting jig? How much adjustment do you expect to do and how often.

Is the tolerance on the length of the cable the problem?

Prestressed cable are available so that tensile strain is the only variable for the length of the cable.
