I'm very interested in finding any information on modelling wind waves in canals. I'm dealing with surface widths of around 80 metres and straight lengths along the canal of up to 5 kilometres.

Does anyone know of any guidelines / research / software available?

Thanks

Please refer to Shore Protection Manual (SPM) equations 39 and 40. You will need to know the depth of your canal and the prevalent wind direction and speed.
What I think you are looking for is a "Fetch and Depth limited" wave conditions.
Goodluck in your search.
