An Engineer here purchased a new PC with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. I will be installing SolidWorks 2005 Office Pro and CosmosWorks on it Monday.
I know this is a new OS, but has anyone heard of any problems with SW running on this OS version? I don't think there will be any issues, but just curious. VAR does not know.
Thank you.

The SWX 2006 preview has a note about an upcoming version specifically for your new OS.

thanks.
I found this in SW site:
"Additionally, SolidWorks 2006 will support the recently released Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition operating system with a soon-to-be-released service pack. A native 64-bit version of SolidWorks 2006 is expected to ship later this year, promising further performance gains."
I guess this means I can't load it until the SP comes out?

Chris ... SW will probably run OK under the x64 edition, but you wjust on't see any performance benefits till SW06 plus SP is loaded.
Your VAR should be able to tell you, or at least find out for you. That's why they're paid the big bucks ... right Scott? [laughtears]

I actaully heard that SW2005 will also be 100% compatiable with the XP64 operating system with an upcoming SP. I'm not sure of any performance gain but SW will offer full support.

Thanks guys. Yes, VAR is paid big bucks but is usually slow updating to new technology.

I just installed SW2004 sp5 on XP64, and it seems to run fine.
No noticable performance difference, but I am hoping to be able to use more memory (up to 4 GB?). I haven't had a chance to test that yet.
