In most pig trap design that I've encountered, there a 2 pig trap barrels, a major barrel and a minor barrel, connected with a reducer.

Why do we need two barrels? Can't it be just long single size barrel?

The smaller pipe will be the same diameter as the pipe to be pigged, the larger pipe will be the catcher to enable the pig to be retrieved without the need to pull the pig through the pipe. It would also collect anything that the pig cleaned. Otherwise the pig would either be stuck in the pipe or if there was an open end, the pig would fly out.

Launch and receiver, period. Stephen A is correct.
