I work in a foundry exclusivly 'jobbing' and 'semi-jobbing' work - the normal rules for lean don't really seem to fit or hard to find application.
What's your best piece's of advice? thanks in advance

There is ALWAYS waste and therefore improvements to be made. Some resources can be found at or get some of the latest books ("Lean Expert of the Week" stuff found on Amazon.com etc). You might even try looking at bookstore.

You could start small by implementing the 5S guidelines ("a place for everything, and everything in its place"). Eventually start looking for waste and inefficiency in every aspect of the business. The sophisticated lean & 6-sigma tools kick in to find and root out the hard stuff.
