When creating a drawing, I use annotation > note a lot. I'm sure when editing the note, under 'leader' I used to have options to align the tail of the leader to either top middle or bottom of the note, as well as to align left/right (maybe some others I forget right now). I liked these.

I'm not sure at which point, but they've disappeared... I've been doing a lot of modelling and not so much drawing lately, and I upgraded to 2011 a short while ago - is this just something that got dropped?

I see the same 9 options I've always had;
Leader - Multi-jog Leader - No Leader
Leader Left - Leader Right - Leader Nearest
Straight Leader - Bent Leader - Underlined Leader

For some mysterious reason I can't take screenshots today, so the above text will have to do.

I don't recall leader vertical alignment ever being available while CREATING a note, but after it is finished and deselected, reselecting allows the change. I'm still on 2010.

I'm pretty sure this came up in the SWX forum thread about drawing annotation formatting from a couple of months ago.

Mike: That's odd... just tried it and I don't even have that option! I presume they saw fit to drop it for 2011. Shame, because if I add a note above a part, I think it looks WAY better with a leader from the bottom of the note. Same for adding a note to the left of a part, for example - I don't always want a leader that comes out of the top of the note.

I'm just waiting for the boss to pick me up on this too, so any work-arounds (don't you get sick of 'work-arounds'?!) would be great!

hititfaster,

Can you post images of what you are trying to achieve, or what you were previously able to do?

"I presume they saw fit to drop it for 2011"
AFAIK, nothing has changed regarding the Note function.

I made a note look extra iffy to highlight what I mean. See link. The leader has defaulted to the bottom, and as such looks as though it's floating in mid air. If I had my little buttons back, I'd just select it, click the one that snaps it to the middle and have the leader as close to the text as possible. Neat.

I got my colleague here to screenshot his version of SW as he's still on 2010 and they are definitely present. I'm not sure if I can double-post links so will attach it to one right after this.

As it was mentioned by MikeMcL, the options you are looking for aren't available when creating the note but can be accessed by clicking on the note once it has been created. I'm using SolidWorks 2011 SP3.

The icons shown in the second image are definitely on my install of SW2011 (SP4EV), but only after selecting a previously placed note ... as MikeMcL stated.

Ooooh, freaky. Ok, I'll go check and double check haha!

Hmm... Unless I can palm this off as a SW oddity, I think this might be a case of me just missing something *embarrassed face*. I swear I clicked on various notes to no avail, yet I've come in on Monday morning and lo, it's working. Sorry guys!

The difference seems to be if the note has a carriage return to create one or more lines of text. Type a note and force word wrap by scaling the box and you won't have the "tail of the leader option". Now, edit the same note and type enter where there was a space. leave the note and select it and you "should" have all the options. Hope this helps.

That's it! I did change between hitting enter and using the red square tags to change text box size since the latter is easier to adjust if needed. Just tried it and I have my options... The above post must have, by fluke, been one I created by hitting enter. Thanks!
