Hi,
I'm trying to understand and read how to assess a concrete building that has cracks tha trun horizonally and diagonally.
I found a big section in ACI that deals with cracks (224-1R-93) but it doesnt seem to be aimed at structural problems, but rather more aestetic and problems due to heating or concrete moisture etc...
I'm basiclally looking for the exact page or section in the ACI that will explain what a diagonal vs orizontal vs vertical crack would mean structurally. which one would a foundation settlement create? what makes a crack of concren to an engineer vs just a regular crack etc..

is it really in section 224-1R-93 and i missed it somehow or is it somewhere else? either way, can you please be as precise as possible to point me where the section would be ?
thanks in advance

Pick up Neville's Concrete Properties book - he discusses cracks and types (directions, etc) in detail.
