A nice easy guide to welding processes, brazing, NDT etc try
The cheapest and best books on welding are from the lincoln foundation ‘The welding procedure handbook’ and ‘Metals and how to weld them’ are highly recommended.

If you want more academic information try You have to register but its free and available to all.

There is also lots of information available on my site plus links to many other sites.

Have fun

Congratulation, DAN ! No, you are NOT wasting your time, you are investing your time into your future -- learning is the best investment anyone your age can make.

Where are you located ? Is there any e.g. public or university library close to you ? Can you access them ?

Do not hesitate to ask questions -- the only stupid question is what you DON't ask.

Good luck !
