I am designing a piece of equipment which will require two shaft lengths, depending on the application. My boss told me to use a basic shaft with an extension, using oil well threads to attach the extension when necessary.

I can't find any dimensional or other data on oil well threads. My boss doesn't have any information either. Is there another name for these threads, or is it an out-dated standard, or is there even such a thing as oil well threads?

Thanks.

Phil

Buttress threads are used frequently. A standard that covers this area is API RP 5B1 Threading, Gauging, and Thread Inspection of Casing, Tubing, and Line Pipe Threads.
