A moisture/density gauge uses (oh-oh) Gamma and Neuton radiation to determine the density (that is the gamma) and moisture (thats the neuton) of the soil which allow the operator to determine if the soil is compact enough.

Sorry, but using MOAB to compact sand in Iraq still won't stop the sand from shifting and who knows what we'll uncover?
