H everyone,
I earned my associates in drafting and design a few years back and I have been working as a designer for about eight years. A local university has a bachleors of design graphics engineering technolgy. I am considering going back to school for this degree but I am concerned about the worth of such a degree. The program is ABET accredited and the university is tranferring most of my associates credit hours. I just wonder if there is a value in this or is all the value in just haveing a bachelors degree itself regardless of the topic. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

In engineering, most of the value seems to be in having your bachelors in Engineering.

While it varies some by industry & how good you are, designers tend to get looked down on a little.

That's not to say it's not worth getting, but it's probably not going to prepare you for an engineering position. How far can you go with a more advanced design degree in your field/area?

An alternative that may be of value might be getting GD&T certification or something. GDTPS aren't that common.

There is still a market for folks with good GD&T skills without needing a bachelors for checking or senior designer etc. roles. Most of these positions require more experience than you have but having explicit GD&T certification may help. I've known several checkers over the last few years making a good chunk that I was at the same time.

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)
What is Engineering anyway: faq1088-1484

Thanks Kenat,
Actually, I am working on several certifications. GDTP being one of them.
