Hi All:
I saw some exciter Manu.s have some document show their static exciters have +/-0.2% voltage regulation accuracy - regulate the generator terminal voltage. Let's say typically, 13.8kV, so 0.2% will be +/-27.6V. Can any brand of exciters regulate the generator terminal voltage within +/-0.1% without any hunting?
Thanks!

There will always be some hunting and oscillations when the system is disturbed. The values you are looking at are steady-state, I suspect.

If you are interested in transient response to a step change or something similar, that is another matter.

Thanks for u reply. in real life there is no pure steady state. For analysis purposes, people define static or dynamic as two different states to study the system.

what am I asking is not transient response. Transient response is another story.

Let's assume under system normal condition without any disturbances, I doubt very much if the exciter can be tuned to regulate terminal voltage to +/-10 V level with 13.8kV level.
Wants to know more either from exciter Manu.people or any body from generator maintenance/P&C people OR Anybody who tuned exciters before .
THanks!

QBPlanner,

You will always have inaccuracy to the tune of erros/ in accuracy of your sensing circuitary - CT/PT - Voltage drop in cables and measuring accuracy of EX cirutary.

If after all these inaccuracies (Neglecting them), if you are looking to maintain +/- 10V movement only using exciters, it is little difficult as load VAR demand is never constant.

In everything ideal condition, I would believe the OEM and assume that EX will deliver its name plate regulations / accuracy.

Hi NCTHAI:
Thanks for your reply it is a through one.I like it ,practical .
now a days, some utilities put in "so called" standard with this type of "+/-0.1%" requirements asking any IPPs who wants to connect to the system to meet such a "nice" requirement.
When I read this type of requirements. it is a pity for the people who don't really understand the real world but producing something they think are correct. This kind of things are very often happened in North America utilities. No wonder why we always got black out.
Thanks again
