Hi my all freinds,

I am working on designing of a water storage tank with D=10m and H=10m.
what type of supported cone roof should I select?

1) supported cone roof with girder- rafter and column
2) supported cone roof with rafter only

which type of abouve is better and which type is easy for construction?

please help me and refer me to book or standards.

AWWA D-100 is your code of choice for a water tank. Choose whichever roof type is least expensive (consider short and long term costs).

you are right, and many thanks for the information, but owner wants using API 650 for designing the Tank. Can you help me more?

Same message. API 650 allows self supported and structure supported roofs. For your size tank, assuming normal loading, I'd use a self supported dome or umbrella roof. My next choice would be a center column with rafters. Girders are not needed for this configuration. If you need a tank / roof design, contact an engineering firm familiar with API 650 (there are boatloads of us out there).

Agree with IFR here, self supported Dome would be the easiest/ tidyest

For a 10m Dia tank you may even be able to get away with a stiffened cone roof with rafters only, ie no centre column. This does rely on arching action and you need to have a good kerb angle.

Under API 650 this would class as a self supported roof with "stiffeners".

I'm designing a 30' diameter tank right now, and am using a self supporting cone roof, no stiffeners, rafters or columns. This is pretty close to your size, so you could probably do this also if the loads allow. API 650 has all the equations you need for it.
