What material is used for the large rolling shafts that are used to roll plate into shell courses or cones?

Is a different material used in hot rolling (steel plate mill) than in cold rolling (rolling shell courses or cones, like for pressure vessels, wind turbine structures,...)?

Thanks in advance for the responses

Rolling mill cylinders for hot rolling are hardfaced with martensitic stainless steel; type 420 I believe.
The rest requires an hour long lecture.
I suggest you begin by googling.
