what is the difference between crushing and compression

Though crushing requires compression, an object can be compressed without crushing. As an example, a rubber ball can be compressed in your hand, but it is not likely that you can "crush" it. Crushing implies damage or failure as a result of compression, while compression is just a state of stress.
