Hi. Our circa 1980's pavement are being replaced now. The contractor is proposing to pave using multiple layers of asphalt materials in the west to east direction. This is along the travel path of aircraft along taxilane K from runway 6l/24R. Our previous apron pavment had dips. We di d not see unusual discrepancied in the underlying base when the material was ripped out. The inly suspect is the manner of placement in the 1980's.

Question: Does it really matter how direction of the layers of asphalt is placed? Will placing the multiple layers transverse to the direction of the aircraft landing gears be of lesser cold joints? Thank you for your attention. Will really appreciate your expertise.

Hi,

I don't think that this forum is appropriate to your query; try road construction or similar, if there are such forums.
