Does anyone know what the global file size limitation is in SolidWorks offhand? How big can a file become before it (SolidWorks) throws an error?

Thanks,

Depends on your system! Amount of RAM, VM, CPU, etc.

Right but it IS certain finite percentage, etc. That's the trick.

depends on how memory you have... if you use up all your memory then you will crash. There is no global limit to the size SW can handle it's how mauch PC power you have to use.

Application should be to handle anything its the system that cannot process it.

when you have used 1.6 Gb of memory, Windows will crash. If you use the 3 Gb switch, you can use up to about 2.6 Gb. It's a Windows limitation, not SW.

Read a few posts from thread559-119720 "SW NOT PROVEN AT ALL - LARGE ASSYS". There are some "best practices" FAQ's as well as other FAQ's here that can make large assemblies perform better.
