Hello Everyone,

I am a new PhD student. My work involves neural network based inverse design of composite materials that can be fabricated by additive manufacturing with experimental validation of the mechanical properties. We are going to generate a big dataset with Finite Element simulations in Abaqus. I am looking for a suitable thermoplastic polymer material model for the simulations. I would highly appreciate anyone's insight and opinion in this regard.

Thanks in advance.

There’s no single best material model for thermoplastics. The choice depends on the type of thermoplastic material, strain range, effects that you want to capture and data that you can provide from experiments.

You can find some tips for selected types of thermoplastic materials on the polymerfem.com blog and 3DSwym Simulia Community (official Abaqus forum). Look for posts by Tod Dalrymple.

Thank you for the valuable suggestions. I was unaware of the 3DSwym Simulia Community; exploring it is fun.
