Is there any procedure or method to prepare 3D model for Meshing/FEA (in other software like ICEM meshing) ?
When I prepare a 3D model and export that to a meshing software like ICEM CFD, I am getting the following problems:
1. The 'connected surfaces' in the NX, is showing as 'unconnected surfaces' in the meshing software. Even though I can connect the surfaces in meshing software, I like to know why the surfaces which are connected in 3D model of NX, is not connected in the meshing software. I exported the model in different formats (like parasolid, IGES, STEP etc.,) and checked and I observed the same result. Also the number of unconnected surfaces varies as per the exported formats.
I observed that the default distance tolerance in nx is 0.0256 mm. Does it have any role on this problem?
2. When I create curves from the surfaces in the 'Meshing software', many curves appeared to be unconnected / overlapping/ overhanging etc., At first, I thought this is way the 'meshing software' creates the curves from surfaces. But when I checked the model in NX with 'Wireframe view', I observed the same unconnected/ overlapping curves (although I didn't create any curves)! How to fix this?
3. Is there any way to automatically defeature the model like removing sharp angles, holes, etc.,?
Any other suggestion regarding making model for meshing / analysis?
Thanks. (I am using NX8)
