Hope this is the right place to post this simple questions :

"Plug gage" and "Pin gage" are different terms, but the meaning is exactly the same, right ? and how about "Plain plug gage" ? what is the differences between them ?

Plug gauge is a "Go/No Go" gauge. (double headed)
Pin gauge is just a round "calibrated" pin.

Plain plug gauge just has 2 round plugs versus a "thread plug gauge"

Thanks for your inputs, mcgyvr.

The 2 round plugs means Go on one plug and No Go on the others, am I right ? is it one kind of Go / No Go gage ?

mcgyvr, excellent search of plug gauge.

That means “plain plug gauge” is same as “plug gauge”, I noticed some gage maker called “plain plug gauge” and some of them called “plug gauge”, I really don’t know what is the differences between them.
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving.

I've always used "pin" and "plug" interchangeably when it comes to fixed limit cylindrical gauging. I always figured a plain "plug" gauge used to check an internal feature is just the opposite of a plain "ring" gauge used to check an external feature. A plug gauge assembly, or GO/NOGO assembly, would be double sided. I looked at various gauge companies (Meyer, Vermont, Deltronic) to challenge myself and there appeared to be no differentiation between the two terms. In fact Vermont, offers replacement individual plug gauges for their GO/NOGO assemblies. I bet if you asked a gauge company for a 1.000" plug gauge, they would first ask the type (+, -, or bilateral) and class (XX, X, Z, ZZ, Y, etc.). That would give you a single 1.000" plug (or pin gauge) of the specified variety. To come up with a GO/NOGO assembly you'd have to specify another size based on the tolerance of the hole.
