What is maximum span for 18x8 steel beams

I can't get a straight answer from the architect or the steel suppliers. What is the maximum span you can go for 18x8 steel and 21x8 steel I beams? Thanks Russ

Part of the problem is in your terminology. They should be referred to as W8x18 and W8x21 steel beams. The rest of the problem with a question like this is that the answer depends on loads, lateral support of the top flange, end connections, etc. I would certainly be wary about answering a question like this unless I knew all that information. My response could get someone killed.

Are you trying to say "What's the maximum length that a single rolled unit of that size can be shipped in?" This would make more sense, as a question.
