On many site plans i put an EG and FG
elevation just because its company policy.
I just make them up. What is the real
difference between them? does anyone know
what they stand for?

EG = Existing Grade

FG = Finished Grade

Often, there is a difference, as most construction sites are 'leveled' by means of excavating or by placing 'engineered fill'.

You make them up?? Then people who bid on it for excavation might get screwed or lucky.

I agree with COEng. Not just for cut:fill analysis, but the results will affect drainage, roadway grades, ADA accessability, U/G utility cover and more.

Jiminem2, what happens with these elevations you "just make up"? Who seals these fictitious grades?

Good Grief! Or should I say bad grief!
