What does WAN means???

I would like to know what does "WAN" means (talking about SCADA system).

More specifically you can view your networks in a couple of different ways LAN and WAN are the most common. Your Local Area Network would most likely be contained with in a plant or factory. The WAN would be the network that connects several plants or factories together.
