Has anyone heard the terminology of 'pot sticking' to locate an existing utility?

I've heard of 'pot holing' to dig and verify the location of a waterline and such, but not 'pot sticking', which has recently come up.

It makes me wonder if there is a means of using a stick or iron rod to push through the soil until you perhaps hit a pipe.

Seems to me the only way to really verify is to uncover and expose.

Anyone have an opinion on that?

Think this “pot sticking” may be what we called “pipe probing” way back when..................

This used a ½" rod with a “T” handle on top and a slightly larger diameter metal ball welded on the bottom.

Manual up and down thrust have reached buried pipes confirmed by familiar “metal clink” sound after penetrating protective coating. Occasionally, we had to pour in a little water to help penetration.

Please Note: Once had to go back and expose some 50 locations of competitors pipe, so damaged protective coating could be mended.
